Have you ever stopped to think about the people who have shaped your life?
There are certain voices you can still hear. Certain conversations that changed everything.
God has always worked through relationships. He places people in our lives who strengthen our faith and help us see what is possible through Him.
For Jerry and me, no relationship shaped our lives and our ministry more than our friendship with Kenneth and Gloria Copeland.
Jerry often preached from Proverbs 13:20: "He who walks with wise men will be wise..." That verse was never just a Scripture we quoted. It became a principle we lived, together, for over fifty years.
Many of you know how God dramatically changed Jerry's life in 1969. Before that night, he had no plans of becoming a minister. His dream was to build race cars and grow his automotive business.
But I had been praying. Years before we were married, I promised the Lord that the man I married would know Jesus, be filled with the Holy Spirit, and go wherever God called him.
Jerry used to laugh and say, "You married the wrong man." I would smile and remind him, "You just don't know the power of intercessory prayer."
Then one evening he agreed to attend a meeting with me. He only came because I promised that if he didn't like the preacher, I would never ask him again.
That preacher was Kenneth Copeland. That one service changed everything.
A few hours after the service, at three o'clock in the morning, Jerry surrendered his life completely to Jesus in our living room.
He was gloriously born again, filled with the Holy Spirit, and from that night forward became a different man.
Looking back, I realize God wasn't simply changing Jerry's direction. He was placing us both in a covenant relationship with two people who would shape the rest of our lives.
Together, Jerry and I sat under their ministry, and still remain under that ministry today!.
We called Proverbs 13:20 "The Law of Increase by Association." Walking with someone means much more than being around them. It means learning from them, following their example, until it becomes part of your own life.
That is exactly what Jerry and I chose to do. We listened repeatedly to every teaching Brother Copeland preached on faith. We devoured every resource we could find.
Jerry and I didn’t just listen to them… we pursued their course of life.
God used that relationship with Kenneth and Gloria to build a foundation of faith that carried our family through more than five decades of ministry around the world. To this day, they are deeply honored in our home.
It is because of Kenneth and Gloria Copeland's example that our family was drawn to a higher level with God than we ever could have reached on our own.
The same truths Jerry and I built our lives on are still carrying me today. God has not changed. His Word has not changed. His faithfulness has not changed.
The principles we lived by over fifty years ago still work because they were never our ideas. They are God's eternal truths, first modeled to us by two faithful friends who loved us enough to show us the way.
I believe that is just as important today as ever. We live in a world filled with voices competing for our attention. Some produce fear. Others create confusion. Many encourage compromise.
How thankful I am that God still raises up ministries that boldly proclaim His unchanging Word. That has always been the assignment of our ministry.
Not simply to hold meetings or publish more books. Our assignment has always been to strengthen believers in faith, encourage pastors, equip leaders, and remind God's people that His promises still belong to them today.
Every message Jerry and I have ever preached point people back to God's Word.
That mission continues.
Every resource we produce and every broadcast we send out exists for one purpose: helping you grow stronger in your walk with God.
That is only possible because of faithful partners like you.
When you became a partner with this ministry, you became much more than someone who gives financially. You became connected in covenant, walking out the assignment God entrusted to Jerry and me more than fifty years ago.
As I write this, the Kenneth Copeland Southwest Believers’ Convention is wrapping up in Fort Worth, Texas, and my heart is especially full because my daughter, Terri Savelle Foy, had the opportunity to minister there. This year’s convention was especially historic, as it was the last event to be held in that arena before it is slated for demolition. Jerry shared so many memorable services in that building over the years, making this a meaningful milestone for our ministry family. We hope many of you were able to attend and be part of this special occasion. If you were unable to be there in person, be sure to watch the services through Kenneth Copeland Ministries television programming or on their social media platforms.
Watching her stand on that platform, carrying the very anointing that shaped her father's life and mine so long ago, is a picture of everything I have been telling you. The Law of Increase by Association did not end with Jerry and me; it continues today in every believer who chooses to connect with this ministry and pursue this course of life.
That is what walking with wise men produces; It becomes a heritage.
