As you give this month, I asked my team to send you my audio teaching titled, A Man After God’s Heart, where I go in-depth into the TEN qualities you and I must develop in our own lives. Click here now ⟩
Have you ever read the stories of the Bible and found yourself stirred with a deep desire to live like those heroes of faith—ordinary people who did extraordinary things for God? These men and women weren’t perfect, but they dared to believe, dared to obey, and gave their lives to something greater than themselves.
They didn’t coast through life; they ran toward the call of God with courage, with conviction, and with a sense of destiny. And here’s the truth: that same spirit is alive in you!
You don’t read about these heroes just to admire them. You’re meant to emulate them. The Bible wasn’t written to impress you with what others did—it was written to ignite something inside of you.
You and I were born for such a time as this—to stand strong in a world that’s confused, to love boldly in a world that’s broken, and to advance God’s Kingdom with passion, purpose, and power.
One of the greatest examples of this kind of life is David. Out of all the men in Scripture, David holds a unique distinction: God Himself called him “a man after My own heart.” That wasn’t because David was perfect—far from it. But David had a heart that burned for God.
He was a worshiper, a warrior, and a servant before he ever became a king. When he failed, he repented. When he succeeded, he gave God the glory. David lived with a relentless desire to please the Lord, and that’s what set him apart.
That same kind of heart—hungry for God, ready to obey, quick to repent, and eager to worship—is what God is still looking for today.
I believe with all my heart that you and I can develop these same characteristics.
I love the way the 2 Chronicles 16:9 reads in the New American Standard, “The eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth so that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.”
Think about that. God is actively searching. Not casually glancing. Not waiting passively.
His eyes are roaming—scanning the whole earth—looking for someone whose heart is fully His.
Why? Because He wants to strongly support that person. He’s looking for someone to back, to strengthen, to raise up, to pour His power into. That’s not just good news; it’s a call to action.
When I read that, I immediately think of David. God said of David, “He’s a man after My own heart.” In other words, “His heart beats in unison with Mine.” Can you imagine that? A heart so surrendered, so aligned, so responsive to God’s will, that Heaven itself stops and takes notice.
I believe God is still searching like that. He’s still scanning the earth, and He’s stopping to look for people like you. Yes—you!
I want you to picture this: God is looking across nations, across churches, across hearts… and suddenly, His eyes stop on you. “That's what I’m looking for.” Can you feel the weight of that? The God of the universe… is looking for you.
A few weeks ago, I had a moment where I could feel Him stop on me. And I said, “You’re looking for me. I’m who You’ve been looking for!” It shook me, humbled me, and lit a fire in my belly. I don’t want anything less than a heart that is fully in sync with His. I want to be the one God stops on. I want to be the one He says, “I can show Myself strong on your behalf.”
So, what was it about David that made him a man after God’s own heart?
While studying David’s life, I have identified TEN characteristics that cause David to be a man after God’s own heart. Let me focus on three of these characteristics that caused the eyes of God to stop on him—and they’re the same qualities He’s looking for in you today.
- Obedience to God
When it came to leading the nation, David didn’t lead based on public opinion or political pressure, he led based on the Word of God. He submitted to the prophets, and he listened when they spoke correction. In contrast, Saul refused to obey God fully; he rejected the prophetic word, and that disobedience led to his downfall.
Yes, I know David didn’t always get it right. He sinned, and he failed—badly. But here’s the difference: when he fell, he repented. His heart was soft. He didn’t justify or blame—he ran back to God. That’s what made him different.
Let this encourage you today—God isn’t looking for a perfect person; He’s looking for an obedient person. A person who says, “God, if You say it—I’ll do it.” A person who lets the Word be the final authority in all things.
- Love for God’s Word
David didn’t just obey God’s Word—he loved it. He meditated on it. He clung to it like a lifeline. He said, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). That wasn’t just poetry—it was the way he lived.
When David became king, his first order of business was to bring back the Ark of the Covenant, God’s presence, to Jerusalem. And though he initially did it the wrong way, what did he do next? He went back to the Word; he studied it and corrected his method. Why? Because David wanted to do it God’s way, and he always returned to the Word for answers.
If you want to be a person after God’s own heart, you must do the same. Before you ask everyone else’s opinion, or try to find the answer on the internet — go to God’s Word.
- Faith in God’s Power
David didn’t just believe in God; he also believed God’s power would show up for him when he needed it the most. That’s why, when Goliath mocked Israel and terrified an entire army, David didn’t flinch. He didn’t hide, but instead, chose to run toward the giant with boldness, shouting, “I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts!”
Why was David so fearless? Because he knew he wasn’t fighting alone. David believed heaven’s armies were backing him—and they were. That kind of faith is what made the difference, and it’s the same kind of faith that still moves God today.
David didn’t rely on the weapons of man; he didn’t put his trust in a sword or shield. He stood in front of a battle-hardened giant with nothing but a sling and a rock—and faith. And right before he released that stone, he declared, “So that all this assembly may know that the Lord does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will hand you over to us!” (1 Samuel 17:47)
That’s giant-killing faith!
As I was writing this, I could feel this sentiment begin to rise up in my spirit—and I knew I had to say it to you personally: You have giant-killing faith.
Yes, you! Whatever you’re facing right now, whatever battle is in front of you, you are not alone; God is with you and His power is backing you. The victory is already being lined up on your behalf.
Say this out loud, like you mean it, “I have giant-killing faith, and it will remain in me all my life!”
Don’t say it timidly. Say it like David did—with boldness, with fire, with confidence in your covenant with God. You’re not going down! You’re rising up in the name of the Lord, and your giants are coming down.
I believe God is still looking; He’s still searching for those who are willing to receive this truth. And when He sees your heart—obedient, full of faith, and anchored in His Word—I believe He will stop and say, “That’s what I’m looking for.”
