Whatever you may be facing right now, don't allow what you see around you to determine what you believe about your future.
Don't allow a difficult report, an unexpected circumstance or a season of uncertainty to produce fear and rob you of your expectation. God is still on the throne. Jesus is still Lord. The Holy Spirit is still your Helper, and the Word of God is still true!
One of the greatest examples of rejecting fear and choosing faith is found in Mark 5. Jairus came to Jesus because his little daughter was at the point of death. Yet, listen to the faith in his words: “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” (Mark 5:23).
Jairus had already decided what he was going to believe. “She shall live.”
He didn't know how everything was going to happen. He simply knew that if he could get Jesus involved, everything could change.
That's faith. Faith looks to Jesus and says, “I believe You can turn this around.”
As Jesus was going with Jairus, messengers arrived from his house with devastating news that his daughter had died. They told him there was no reason to trouble Jesus anymore. But Jesus immediately said, “Be not afraid, only believe” (Mark 5:36).
Another translation expresses it this way, “Don't yield to fear. All you need to do is keep on believing.”
Those words are just as powerful for you today. Don't yield to fear. Keep on believing.
When circumstances change, keep believing. When the answer seems delayed, keep believing. When your emotions pull you in another direction, keep believing.
You don't have to understand everything that's happening in order to trust God. You simply have to decide that fear will not determine your expectation.
Here are four simple things you can do when fear tries to take hold.
1. Know Fear Does Not Come From God
Second Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
When fear comes, recognize it. God didn't give it to you. He gives you power, love and a sound mind. Make the decision, “I refuse to receive fear.”
2. Believe God Is With You
Isaiah 41:10 says, “Fear not, for I am with you…I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you”
You're not facing your situation alone. God is with you. God is strengthening you. God is helping you. And Romans 8:31 says, “If God be for us, who can be against us?”
3. Give Your Cares to God
First Peter 5:7 says, “Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you.”
Give Him the worry. Give Him the uncertainty. Give Him the situation you can't fix. Then refuse to take it back.
4. Replace Fear With Faith
Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Fill your heart with the Word. Read it. Hear it. Speak it. When fearful thoughts try to return, take them captive and answer them with God's Word.
When fear says, “You're not going to have enough,” answer with Philippians 4:19 declaring, “My God shall supply all your need.”
When fear says, “You're never going to get through this,” answer with 2 Corinthians 2:14: “Thanks be unto God, which always causes us to triumph in Christ.”
Let God's Word have the final say!
Psalm 62:5 says, “My expectation is from Him.” Your expectation doesn't have to come from your circumstances, what happened yesterday, or what someone else says is possible. Your expectation comes from God.
Start expecting the victory.
In Mark 4, Jesus told His disciples, “Let us pass over unto the other side” (verse 35). Then a tremendous storm arose. The waves beat against their boat until it began filling with water. But the storm didn't change what Jesus had instructed them to do.
Jesus stood and said, “Peace, be still.” The wind ceased and the Bible says there was a great calm. There had been a great storm, and then there was a great calm.
So, if you've been facing a great storm, start expecting a great calm! If you've been under great pressure, start expecting a great breakthrough. If you've faced great opposition, start expecting a great victory.
God is greater than your storm.
Paul said in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair...cast down, but not destroyed.”
Jerry said it like this; “You may be in the greatest battle right now you’ve ever been in in your life. You may feel like you can’t stand anymore. You’ve done all you know to do, and yet you don’t see anything working in the natural. That is always an indication you’ve got the devil right where you want him. He has just fired his best shot, you’re still standing, and you’re going to win.”
Faith doesn't pretend the problem isn't there. Faith looks at the problem and declares, “My God is greater.”
God still has prayers to answer, doors to open, needs to supply and victories for you to experience.
